Joseph Linwood Bowden, 86, of Burgaw passed gently from his earthly life on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
He was born December 25, 1931 in Pender County, the son of the late John Dixon Bowden and Helen Eakins Bowden. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Nell Fields and brother, Marvin Bowden.
Linwood is survived by his daughter, Sheila Flynn and her husband, George; sons, John “JD” Bowden, Mark Bowden, Joe Bowden, and Tony Bowden; granddaughters, Sonia Thornton and Andrea Etheridge; four great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
He was retired from NC Department of Transportation after working loyally over 40 years.
First and foremost Linwood loved and cared for his family. All of his life until recently, Linwood had a garden year around growing all of the family’s vegetables, and my they ate healthy. He was a hard and diligent worker and probably has split enough wood over the years to fill a castle. He enjoyed hunting, but fishing was his passion. Linwood was loved and will be greatly missed.
There will be no services at this time. At a later date he will be laid to rest in a family cemetery.
Shared memories and condolences may be sent to the family by selecting "Guestbook" above.
A service of Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home of Burgaw.

It is obvious from the many kind expressions that Mr. Bowden will be sadly missed by all who knew him. I find comfort in knowing the restoration of life is guaranteed. Jesus not only spoke of the coming resurrection (John 5:21, 28, 29), he himself was resurrected by his Father and performed many miracles. All such miraculous events, including resurrections, took place on earth giving us a precious glimpse of what is to come.......seeing our loved ones again! (Acts 24:15)
Further, death was not God’s purpose for mankind and his purpose has not changed. His word is clear, “He will swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe away the tears from all faces”. (Isaiah 25:8; Revelation 21:4)
As you cherish the many fond memories of Mr. Bowden, may Jehovah God continue to bless your family during this difficult time......
