Hilda Rooks Tompkins, 88, of Rocky Point passed gently from her earthly life on Friday, October 13, 2017 at her home following a brief illness. She was surrounded with love by her family.
She was born August 2, 1929 in Rocky Point, the daughter of the late Arthur Wright Rooks and Estelle Rooks. In addition to her parents, Hilda was preceded in death by her son, Liston S. “Jack” Tompkins, Jr.; and four brothers and four sisters.
Hilda is survived by her daughter, Pamela Kaye Tompkins; daughter-in-law, Cathy Tompkins; grandsons, Anthony Tompkins and Samuel Brady; sisters, Gray Moore and Mary Elizabeth Douglas; many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was retired after working for 25 years with Corning, Inc. Hilda was a long time member of Riley’s Creek Baptist Church.
Hilda was devoted to her family and was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She found great joy in the simplest of things, but her greatest joy was family. Being an excellent seamstress, Hilda enjoyed making quilts, crafting, and sewing. When Kaye was growing up, Hilda made many of her clothes. Hilda was blessed with a love for the Lord and held a strong Christian faith. Hilda’s family is grateful to God for her life, for your friendship and for your kindness and prayers.
A memorial service will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 29 at Riley’s Creek Baptist Church with The Rev. Jim Herchemhahn officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be given to Riley’s Creek Baptist Church, 19845 NC Hwy 210, Rocky Point, NC 28457 or to Lower Cape Hospice Foundation, 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401.
