Lillian McNeil Galloway



Lillian McNeil Galloway was born on May 11, 1929 and died on October 22, 2018 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington, NC. She was born in St. Stephens, SC and grew-up in Charlotte, NC where she graduated from Harding High School and then attended Salem College, Winston Salem, NC.
Mrs. Galloway was predeceased by her husband, Ray Galloway of 67 years, just a short three months ago. The Galloway family lived in Raleigh, NC for 10 years before moving to Goldsboro, NC in 1965.
Mrs. Galloway was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Goldsboro, NC where she served as an Elder. She was instrumental in organizing the Chancel Guild and served as its Chairman for many years. In addition, Mrs. Galloway organized the Chrismon Tree and the Prayer Shawl Ministry. She taught Sunday School and served as the Secretary of the Memorials committee for several years. Mrs. Galloway’s volunteer work included the Read to Succeed program, Wayne County Mental Health Association, the Community Arts Center and as a receptionist at First Presbyterian Church. She served as Girl Scout Leader and President of Seyboro Swim Club.
She, along with her husband, did volunteer mission work in Bangladesh, Indonesia, Kenya, Nepal, Pakistan and Zambia. Mrs. Galloway served as liaison to the Presbytery’s overseas missions and was a member of the Presbytery Global Missions Committee.
Surviving are her daughters, Margaret Hayes Galloway of Wilmington, NC, Melissa Galloway Hinds and husband, Carl E Hinds of Burgaw, NC; her granddaughters, Grae Holloman Harris and husband John M Harris of Fuquay Varina, NC and Hayes Coulter Holloman of Wilmington; great – grandchildren, Olivia Leigh Puckett, Raleigh NC and Gavin Michael Harris, Fuquay Varina, NC; brothers, Charles Daniel McNeil, Castle Rock, CO and Richard Alexander McNeil, Gastonia, NC.
Mrs. Galloway was predeceased by her parents, Felix and Agnes McNeil, brothers; Alan Hayes McNeil, Francis Gordon McNeil, infant Philip Reid McNeil; sisters, Peggy McNeil Walker and Diane McNeil Shrader.
A Memorial Service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Goldsboro, NC at 1pm on Saturday, October 27, 2018. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in McChesney Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials supporting mission work may be sent to First Presbyterian Church, 1101 E. Ash Street, Goldsboro, NC 27530.
