Margaret Marion Smith



Margaret Marion Smith, 93, died Saturday, August 25, 2018, at Dayspring of Wallace, NC.

Born January 17, 1925, in Anderson County, SC, she was the daughter of the late John Daniel and Edna Lonon Smith. She was also predeceased by her two sisters: Virginia Jameson and Norma Langley.

Mrs Smith was educated at Lebonan High School, near Anderson, SC, and graduated from Anderson College. She served in the U.S. Marine Corp during World War II, serving as an administrative secretary to the Commandant in Washington, DC. During her long career, she worked in various positions, including 25 years at UNC-G before retiring.

She was an excellent seamstress and tailor. Whether using her talent to clothe her family, make intricate vestments for her church, or create clothing for orphans in Brazil, she found joy and comfort in sewing.

Margaret and Meady Mays Smith was married on November 20, 1948. Mr. Smith died on April 1, 1997 after 48 years of marriage. Together they raised three children: Nancy, David, and Emily. They were very active in church and community activities.

She is survived by her daughter Nancy Smith Waters and husband, Brant Waters of Wallace, NC; her son, David Mays Smith, of St. Augustine, FL; and her daughter Emily Smith Bozovich and husband, Daryl Bozovich of Mebane, NC; six grandchildren: Neil Brant Waters (Dorothy Jo), Greg Smith Waters (Leslie), Anna Bozovich Holt (Jackson), Margaret Jean Bozovich, Dakota Mays Smith (Monica), and Madison Marion Smith; and five great-grandchildren: Nora Kathryn Waters, Bailey Elizabeth Waters, Aidan Reese Waters, Jaxon Avent Waters, and Tatum Harper Smith.

The family will receive friends from 2:00pm to 5:00pm on Sunday afternoon, August 26, at the Waters's home in Wallace NC. A private burial service will be held at a later date.
