Vonnie Ray McAnalley



Vonnie Ray McAnalley, known as Mac by his family and friends, passed away October 23, 2017 in Hampstead, NC.

He was born August 28, 1935 in Portageville, MO to Clarence Monroe McAnalley and Opal Wallace McAnalley.

Mac was a retired E8 Army Sergeant and received 5 Bronze Service Stars to Vietnam Service Medals, the Fire Oak Leaf Cluster to Bronze Star Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Meritorious Unit Commendation Vietnamese Civil Actions Medal w/Palm for his service helping the civil police in southern Vietnam. He was a sharpshooter and marksman.

After his retirement from the military he enjoyed spending time fishing, playing with his dog, Tiger, and watching the Detroit Tigers baseball team.

He was preceded in death by his wife.

Left to remember him are four daughters, Donna Adams and Patty Davis of Wilmington NC, Carol Ellington of Carolina Beach NC and Judy Gregg of Winston Salem NC; four step-children, Tammy Rinehart of Stover MO, Robert Lanning, LA , Terry Lanning of Holland OH and Tia Lanning of Temperance MI; sister, Patricia Anderson, Naples FL; as well as 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

A service to celebrate Mac’s life will be held 11:00AM Thursday, October 26, 2017 at the Quinn McGowen Wilmington Chapel on Willow Woods Drive, just off Oleander Drive. Military Honors will follow the service.

Mac will be inurned at a military cemetery at a later date.
