Obituary

Jimmy Oakley Hardin, 75, of Rocky Point beloved husband, daddy, grandad, Christian and God’s faithful servant passed from his earthly life on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at his home.

He was born March 20, 1943 in Lumberton, North Carolina, the son of Northington and Myrtle Cox Hardin. Also, preceding Jimmy in death are his wife, Doris Blanton Hardin and brother, Buck Hardin.

Jimmy is survived by his son, Jason Hardin (Tammy); daughter, Shaula Hardin; grandchildren, Gabriel Hardin and River Hedgepeth; sisters, Deloris Sease, Ellen Smith, Sharon Smith, and Sue Bennett (Morris); brother-in-law, Billy Smith; and many extended family and friends.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering from NC State University and worked mainly for Cates Pickle Company for many years. Later in his career he was a tax appraiser for New Hanover County. In the US Air Force, Jimmy served honorably as a Captain during the Vietnam Era. Jim was a member of King Solomon Lodge No. 138 A.F. & A.M.

Jimmy lived his life with humility, honesty, humor, and service to his faith, family and friends. He served as a deacon in his church, Friendly Community Baptist Church. Jimmy expected only the best of others while trying to give others the best of himself. His life was guided by a strong and practiced faith in God. Jimmy possessed a keen intellect, sharp wit, and caring personality. Amongst the legacies Jim leaves are the importance of God, Family, and Country.

The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Friendly Community Baptist Church with service beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary. The Rev. Roger Brittingham will conduct the service. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. in New Hollywood Cemetery, 1403 East 5th Street, Lumberton, NC.
