Phillip “Phil” Hand Hall, 67, of Watha passed from his earthly life on Friday, November 3, 2017 at his home.
He was born January 2, 1950 in Pender County, the youngest son of the late Colon Wendell and Lois Gray Saunders Hall.
Phil served his country honorably in the US Navy during the Vietnam Era aboard the USS Claude V. Ricketts with tours of duty in the Mediterranean and was a disabled veteran.
Survivors include a son, Mikel Hall (Robin Hosford, his mother) of San Marcos, TX and by his three brothers, James H. Hall (Carole) of New Bern, NC, Thomas W. Hall (Linda) of Henderson, NC and William C. Hall (Mary Beth) of DeBary, FL. Phillip is also survived by a grandson, many nieces, nephews, cousins and his close friends, especially in the Watha area.
Phil grew up on the family dairy farm in Penderlea and graduated from Penderlea High School before enlisting in the Navy.
After service, he toured the country and tried landscaping, fence installation and truck driving before settling in Texas. He also completed training and worked as a certified nursing assistant before returning to North Carolina.
A kind hearted soul, Phil loved southern rock music, country and western movies and motorcycles, but reveled in being the tough guy always living life on his terms.
Family will have visitation Sunday, December 3, 2017 from 2pm to 4pm at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw, North Carolina.
Condolences, messages and shared memories may be sent to the family by selecting "Guestbook" on Quinn McGowen’s website Burgaw, NC or by using the direct link:

Celebrating the life of Phillip "Phil" Hand Hall
Thank you for signing Phillip "Phil" Hand Hall's Guestbook
Phil is my uncle and I loved him dearly. We were able to reconnect when he came to live with me a few years ago. He helped me through two back surgeries and rehab for spinal paralysis. He also cared for my cat and two dogs. In the evenings we’d watch old westerns and talk about family, friends, sad times and fun times. I am so grateful for this time. Love you & miss you Uncle Phil💜
The family is planning a memorial service however we are coordinating with his son, Mikel in Texas who plans to attend.
We invite all family and friends to share pictures and short stories of Phil so these can be placed in a memory book and shown at the service. Please send info to Kimberlychall@gmail.com or text to 252-675-8963

My prays and thoughts are with the family in your time of sorrow.
I remember Phil at Penderlea, we spent 12 years together. I recall when we were in the seventh grade, he and his parents invited me to go to New Bern with them to a family function. I have and always will have fond memories of Phil.
