Phillip “Phil” Hand Hall, 67, of Watha passed from his earthly life on Friday, November 3, 2017 at his home.
He was born January 2, 1950 in Pender County, the youngest son of the late Colon Wendell and Lois Gray Saunders Hall.
Phil served his country honorably in the US Navy during the Vietnam Era aboard the USS Claude V. Ricketts with tours of duty in the Mediterranean and was a disabled veteran.
Survivors include a son, Mikel Hall (Robin Hosford, his mother) of San Marcos, TX and by his three brothers, James H. Hall (Carole) of New Bern, NC, Thomas W. Hall (Linda) of Henderson, NC and William C. Hall (Mary Beth) of DeBary, FL. Phillip is also survived by a grandson, many nieces, nephews, cousins and his close friends, especially in the Watha area.
Phil grew up on the family dairy farm in Penderlea and graduated from Penderlea High School before enlisting in the Navy.
After service, he toured the country and tried landscaping, fence installation and truck driving before settling in Texas. He also completed training and worked as a certified nursing assistant before returning to North Carolina.
A kind hearted soul, Phil loved southern rock music, country and western movies and motorcycles, but reveled in being the tough guy always living life on his terms.
Family will have visitation Sunday, December 3, 2017 from 2pm to 4pm at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw, North Carolina.

Phil and I graduated together. He was always a good friend. Lost touch over the years but got to see him a few years back at a get together in Watha. Had some exchanges of what had been going on. Kept in touch via text msg...I sure hate to hear of his passing. You will be missed Phil.....Brenda Keene Henderson

Phil was older than the rest of us guys around Penderlea, but we still are all very close. We grew up riding horses together, working on the farm together, Going to school together and being neighbors all through childhood. We have lost so many of our close friends in our little community. God rest your soul my good friend.

There was only one Phil Hall. Great friend and fellow Penderlea brother. Miss the days of working on the farm with Phil, Jimmy, Terry and Blackey. Phil and Blackey are back together now. Both are dearly missed.
