Doris Faye Blanton Hardin, age 74, died at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, North Carolina, on October 2, 2017.
She was born April 29, 1943, in Lumberton, North Carolina, to Lucian and Doris Blanton. She met Jim, her husband, through mutual friends and they enjoyed dancing and shagging in Myrtle Beach when they were a young couple.
Doris Faye worked with Duplin County Schools at James Kenan High School as secretary of the guidance department. She loved interacting with teenagers because “it kept her young.” Also, she hosted at The Country Squire Restaurant because she liked conversing with people. Lastly, her employment at Kingoff Jewelers provided her happiness through aiding couples with engagement rings to represent the connection of marriage.
As an active member of Friendly Community Baptist Church she so enjoyed day trips with her Sunday school class. She loved shopping at flea markets, changing handbags to match her outfit, creating floral wreaths, eating and perusing the gift shop at Cracker Barrel, listening to Elvis, attending the movie theater with the biggest tub of butter popcorn and of course, “going off” with her friends.
Doris Faye touched the lives of others with her bubbly laughter and heartfelt advice. Her spirit of adventure was contagious and she maintained her sense of humor until the end. She not only reared Shaula and Jason, her children; she also brought up Donnie, her brother, and Ann-Martin, her niece. Her heart was so big; she adored and guided many young people. The Hardin household was always occupied with teenagers from the neighborhood because this energy filled Doris with contentment. She was definitely a mother figure to all.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Jimmy O. Hardin of Rocky Point; daughter, Shaula Hardin of Wallace; son, Jason Hardin and his wife, Tammy of Jim Thorpe, PA; grandchildren, River Hardin Hedgepeth, Gabriel Hardin, Dakota Rey, TJ Rey; brother, Donnie Blanton and his wife, Nancy of Wilmington; sister-in-law, Charlotte Blanton Philip of Wilmington; Nieces and Nephews, Ann-Martin (Marty) McCall Buffkin, Tres Blanton, Cody Blanton, Henry Daughtry, Kelly Daughtry Broccio and Alli Daughtry.
