Mary Lou Garriss Batts, age 86, of Watha left this earthly life to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, August 1, 2017. She was living near her son at Lenoir HealthCare in Lenior, NC.
She was born September 4, 1930 in Pender County and was the daughter of Si Volson and Lola Ward Garriss. Also lovingly remembered is her husband, the late Jesse Burrell "J.B." Batts and her brothers, Elvin Garriss , Herbert Garris and O.B. Garriss.
Mary Lou was a faithful member of Watha Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother, sister and friend. She was a woman of uncommon character, beauty and grace. To those who knew her, Mary Lou was “an instrument of God’s love on this earth.” Her steadfast moral convictions provided an impeccable example for her family and friends over the years. Being a friend to all, she was a strong yet gentle presence who looked for and encouraged the best in everyone. Mary Lou will surely be missed but cherished memories of her will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
