Obituary

Clara Elizabeth Bentley Cameron, resident of Elizabethtown, North Carolina, formerly of Ballston Spa, New York and Groveland, Florida, passed away peacefully on Monday the 11th of June at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington , North Carolina at the age of 89 years.

Born July 28, 1928 in Bennington, Vermont, Clara received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Castleton Teachers College in 1950. She continued her education at the State University of New York. She retired in 1988 from Shenendehowa Central School district in Clifton Park, NY after 25 years of devoted teaching to her first grade students.

Clara’s love for family and American history ran as deep as her New England heritage that extended as far back as the Pilgrims. She enjoyed recounting stories rich with American pride that had been passed down through her family.

Clara was predeceased by her beloved husband of 33 years, Gerald Woodrow Cameron. She is survived by her eight children, Ben Ekwall (Jan), Mark Ekwall (Mary), Gary Cameron, Paul Cameron (Betty), Leticia Byrd (John), Laura Farrior, Barbara Lee (Joseph), and Heather Morton (Nathan). She is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren for whom she prayed daily.

The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 15, 2018 at Burgaw Baptist Church, 100 E. Bridgers Street, Burgaw, NC 28425. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary with The Rev. Nathan Morton conducting the service.

Burial will be 3:00 p.m. on Friday at Paracleft Cemetery, 1523 Stewart Road, Dunn, NC 28334. The Rev. Dr. H. T. Spence will conduct the graveside service.
