Obituary

Virgie Cavenaugh Proffitt, 68, of Wallace left this earthly life for her eternal rest on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 from Lower Cape Fear Hospice.

She was born on December 30, 1949 in Duplin County and was the daughter of the late Isaiah “Tob” and Florence Cavenaugh. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Aubrey Cavenaugh.

Surviving to cherish her memories are her devoted daughters, Amy Young and Christy Blanchard of Chinquapin; her grandchildren, Brittany Blanchard, Savanna Blanchard, Gabriella Young and Mikaela Young; siblings, John David Cavenaugh and wife Doris, Aaron Cavenaugh and wife Jenny, Ray Cavenaugh and wife Mary Lou and Annie Pearl Bray, all of Wallace and Bertie Gilbert of Teachey and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Virgie had a sweet and gentle spirit and almost always wore an infectious smile. She loved people, the color red and pretty things. She was always happy to see her family and content on receiving even the smallest gifts. She never forgot a birthday and rarely a name. She loved and cherished her entire family, but especially her girls, Amy and Christy. Her friends and caregivers were like her family as well. Despite many hardships and pain throughout her life, Virgie had a tender heart and was ever thankful, loving and forgiving to all. She maintained her praise for God in all circumstances and was joyous in all things. 1Thessolonians 5:18. Although we're left with saddened hearts, we are also left with joy for having known and loved her. She would want us to love one another, to be joyous in all things, and to be forgiving and with kind hearts.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel with the Reverend Kevin Peterson officiating.

The family will receive friends from 10:00am to 11:00am , one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
