Herbert John Erne, Jr., 74, of Currie passed from his earthly life Saturday, February 10, 2018.
He was born June 2, 1943 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late Herbert John Erne, Sr. and Alva Moriesi Erne.

Herbert served his country honorably in the US Air Force and was retired from General Electric Company, aircraft division in Castle Hayne.
Herbert, affectionately known to family and friend as “Bad Dog”, was a man of many facets and interests. He was an ordained minister, avid motorcyclist, and had a fabulous train collection and display. Most important in his life was family that he dearly loved. His personality was sparking, his smile brightened our world, and his laughter contagious. His sudden passing leaves an empty place in our hearts, but we have many cherished and happy memories.
To celebrate his life and remember the good times a gathering of family and friends will be held at his home at a later date.

Celebrating the life of Herbert John Erne, Jr.
Thank you for signing Herbert John Erne, Jr.'s Guestbook
Mary, Herbie Jr, Nicole, and Christopher, we are all so very sorry about Herbie passing. We can only hope that you can find some comfort staying together, holding each other close and giving him the love he deserves. I know whenever I think of Herbie I either laugh out loud or sit with a quiet smile with a memory in my mind. Oh and memories, do I have them of Herbie! I first met Herbie and Mary on my second date with his brother when we went to the drag races in Atco, NJ about 50 years ago. Our happy, home life Sunday and holiday dinners went on at mother Erne's house. If it was Christmas or Herbie's birthday , he would open his envelope, unfold the card, hold it over his head, shake it to see if anything fell out (like money or a check) and holler to Mary "there's nothing in it!" My son has heard this story many times and continues his uncle's tradition of shaking his cards and hollering "Mar, there's nothing in it!" I remember Herbie's colorfully, embellished cars and vans with painted rebel flags and girls, that played "Dixie". You could hear Herbie coming from far away when he came for a visit. He would drive up the street, with music playing. People and kids would run over to see his sparkling painted van with a happy Herbie at the wheel. I could go on. I have so many happy memories of Herbie.
Mary, this is for you. When my mother died, almost 42 years ago, you and Herbie gave me a simple, yet beautiful card. On the front of it was a tall ship with white, blowing sails and stated "The ship that sails on". On the inside of the card it says "There's a beautiful journey awaiting us all." Out of all of the cards, this one always stuck with me and I still look at it to this day.
So with that in mind, I will look for the signs of Herbie, maybe he will come to see me.
Thinking of you with love, Bess, Michael Jr and Megan Erne (voices from the past).
Mary, Herbie Jr., Nicole, and Chistopher. I cant even begin to tell you how very, very sorry we are to hear of your dear Herbie's passing. We can only hope you can find some comfort by staying together, and holding each other and sharing all the love he deserves. When ever I think of him I either just laugh out loud, or smile a quiet Memory.\, which I have so many of

Herb was a man that could make any situation a good situation. Use to love to ride motorcycles with. As a member of the Emergency Response Team at GE he would always do what was best. You could give him an assignment and it would be completed no questions asked. He is one man that I will never forget. I know you have already road the bike to the golden gates in heaven and are now a angel over looking us that we are staying safe on the next ride. Ms Mary I know it is going to be hard for a little while but always remember you have Angel Herby looking over you .

Old Man I'll truly miss you. We've had a lot of fun times together. Laughed hard you always could brighten my day, weather we were riding, sitting around your back yard to pool time. I love you and you will always be in our hearts. I could go on but I will remember you forever. All our love Pete and Kat Lawson
