Robert Edison Lennon, Sr.

Robert Edison Lennon, Sr., 79, of Delco passed from his earthly life on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center.

He was born December 4, 1938 in Wilmington, the son of the late James Edison Lennon and Lydia McGowan Lennon. Also remembered is their son, Robert Edison “Eddie” Lennon, Jr., who preceded Bob in death.

Bob is survived by his wife, Geraldine Horrell Lennon; daughter, Kim Lennon Abernethy (Jeff); daughter-in-law, Judy Lennon Blake (Clay); grandchildren, Michelle Abernethy Clark (Frank), Stefanie Abernethy Lapoint (Jason), Lauren Abernethy Gault (Ben), Robert Edison “Robbie” Lennon III (Kristin), April Lennon Simpson, David Simpson, and Steven Herring; great grandchildren, Austin, Ethan, Emily, Kylee, Abigail, Amelia, Clarissa, Layna, Elyse, Josie, Noah, and Jasper; sister, Elaine Babson (Bobby); brother, Jim Lennon (Nancy); several nieces and nephews; and best buddies, Julian Bradberry and Charles Howell.

The love of his life was his wife, Geraldine. They were married for 60 years. Bob was also a very active member of Livingston Baptist Church in Delco, NC. He served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and was on the missions committee for many years.

Concerning career accomplishments, there are many, for Bob was a hard worker and had a keen mind for business. He was a co-founder (with his brother Jimmy Lennon) of Columbus Pallet Company in the 1970’s. Then for more than 25 years, he worked at General Electric Nuclear Plant as a training development supervisor and quality control auditor. After retirement from GE in 1994, he started Lennon International (an Amway
independent business) and touched the lives of hundreds of people who were on his business team. One of the most consistent things he did with any one he met was to talk about Jesus. Bob was an encourager and inspired people to overcome their challenges by living beyond his numerous health and life challenges and giving God the glory for it.

Two highlights of his life were when he and his wife Geraldine visited their daughter Kim and her family who were missionaries in Liberia, West Africa, and a greatly anticipated trip to Israel with his son, Eddie. He was a great supporter and prayer warrior for Jewish ministries all his life. When he was a little boy, Dr. Jacob Gartenaus, founder of the International Board of Jewish Missions, visited their home many times - and through his dad’s (Rev. Edison Lennon) passion to reach Jewish people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Bob also embraced that ministry.

The family will receive friends 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Livingston Baptist Church, 4629 Livingston Chapel Road, Delco, NC with service beginning at 12 noon in the church sanctuary. Pastor Matthew Griffin and Pastor Richard Wade will conduct the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
