Sarah Lee Gideons Blanton, 88, of Wallace left her earthly life for eternal rest on Friday, October 6, 2017 from New Hanover Regional Medical Center. She was surrounded by her loving children as she made the peaceful transition to her new home.
She was born on May 6, 1929 in Pender County, the daughter of the late Leonard C. and Clyde Rivenbark Gideons. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Joseph "Joe" Blanton on May 3, 2017; her sisters, Lucille Proctor, Elizabeth "Mary" Brock, and Juanita Wells; brothers, William "Bill" Gideons, L. C. Gideons, and Cecil "Sambo" Gideons; son-in-law, Dean Hayes Rivenbark and special sister-in-law, Jean Gideons.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her devoted daughters, Gloria Blanton and Jo Ann Rivenbark both of Surf City; her loving son, Roy L. Blanton and wife, Diane of Teachey; grandchildren, Lisa B. Gibson and husband, Chris, Jeridith P. Blanton and wife, Andrea, Deanna R. Taylor and husband Kevin, Jason H. Rivenbark and wife, Jennifer, and Darrell L. Blanton and wife, Amber: great grandchildren, Isabelle Gibson, Madeline Gibson, Tyler Blanton, Jake Rivenbark, Jenna Rivenbark, Bodie Taylor, Fisher Taylor and Brady Blanton; sister, Laura Johnson of Harrells; brother, Leophas "Possum" Gideons and wife, Annette of Wallace; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends that loved Sarah dearly.
Sarah was a devoted wife and caring mother, grandmother and sister. She enjoyed the simplest things in life, but her greatest joy was her family, whom she loved with all her heart. Sarah was very talented in crocheting and knitting. For many years, she crocheted numerous head warmers (hats) that were given to new born babies at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. The highlight of Christmas-giving to her children and grandchildren was receiving Sarah's famous knitted dish cloths. Before retiring, Sarah and Joe were owners and managers of Little Farmers Seafood Market in Wallace. During that time Sarah made many friends that lasted a lifetime. She was a friend to all, a strong, yet gentle presence in the lives of those who were blessed to know her. Sarah was loved and will surely be missed, but treasured memories will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
The family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel with the service following at 3:00 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Dennis Bazemore will conduct the service.
Burial will follow at Rockfish Memorial Cemetery, Wallace, NC.
The family would like to especially thank Dr. Jonathan Hines and Dr. Charles Neuwirth for their kindness and the compassionate care they gave to Sarah over the years. They would also like to extend their appreciation to the ER staff and 5th floor staff of NHRMC for the wonderful care they gave to Sarah her last few days on earth. To the staff of Woodbury Wellness, Sarah's family is very grateful for the love and care that was shown to both Sarah and Joe during their stay there. May God bless each of you for your dedication.

God called a lovely lady to His house & none too soon! She is oh so at peace now & we can only imagine the conversations she is having! We do know the void you each feel having walked in similar shoes and pray God's rich blessings upon you as each of you move through this time of great loss and sadness. We care! Sarah, I remember walking on an old road through the woods from our house to your house with my big sister who was your age to see you and your family. I was just a small child then, but I have always counted you as part of my good memories growing up. I'm glad I got to have you as a dear friend. Evelyne Mills
