Edna Gray Shepard, 99 years young, left this earthly life for her eternal rest on Thursday, October 5, 2017 from Vidant Duplin Hospital.
She was born on July 26, 1918 in Duplin County and was the daughter of the late Lennis Robert and Martha Pierce Gray. She was also predeceased by her husband, Ernest Marvin Shepard, Sr.; her daughter, Shirley Fay "Sister" Shepard; siblings, Naomi Shepard, William "Bill" Gray, Roy Gray, Louise Sholar, Inez Lilley, Nealie English and Josephine Wood.
Surviving to cherish her memory is her devoted sons, Ernest Marvin "Snip" Shepard, Jr. and wife, Brenda of Ernul, NC and Roger Lee Shepard and wife, Pam formerly of Wallace and now of Sunset Harbor, NC; grandchildren, Dennis M. Shepard, Sammy Shepard and wife, Dana, Rodney Shepard and wife, April and Rhonda M. Northcott and fiancé Joe Caro. Mrs. Shepard was also blessed with 10 great grandchildren; one great-great grandson and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Edna was a loving mother and caring grandmother and sister. She enjoyed the simplest things in life but her great joy was her family. During her life, Edna experienced many changes in this world; from electricity, indoor bathrooms and automobiles but one thing has never change: her love for her sons, Roger and Snip. What an honor it is that she has lived all these years among us. Edna will surely be missed but treasured memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Funeral service will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel with Edna's grandson, Pastor Sammy Shepard officiating.
Burial will follow the service at Gray Family Cemetery on Norwood Blanchard Road, Wallace, NC.
Casketbearers will be Rodney Shepard, Randyn Swinson, Dennis Shepard, Joe Caro Nathaniel Shepard and Parker Sandlin.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00pm, one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Celebrating the life of Edna Gray Shepard
Thank you for signing Edna Gray Shepard's Guestbook
Roger & family, Diane Giddeons certainly said it well. No matter the years, the void is and will always be there. Yet, God let you all have her for a very, very long time and now she is at total peace and rest. May He, our almighty Father, continue to lift you up during the lower times and bring comfort in the memories you have! Pete & Betty Blanton, Wallace

Miss Edna and I were friends from a long time ago. Sometime when she needed to do some shopping or to run errands in town I would go and sit with "Sister" while she was gone. And sometime I just dropped by for a short visit. She once told my sister that I was her (Edna) sister too. I thought so very much of her and I know she will be missed by many.
