Gary Craig Bannerman, age 61, went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on August 4, 2017 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Wilmington, NC.
Born in Bennettsville, S.C. on October 4, 1955, Gary is survived by his sister, Carolyn Bannerman Watkins (Eugene); nieces, Maureen Watkins and Candice Watkins all of Burgaw, N.C. and special aunts, uncles and extended family.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, John Thurman Bannerman, Sr.; his mother, Mary Aliene Bannerman Blalock; and brother, John Thurman Bannerman, Jr.
Gary was loved by family, friends, and co-workers at GAF Industries of Burgaw, N.C. where he was an inventory analyst.
Gary loved the music of the 60's, 70's, and the 80's; going to the beach when in better health; and all sports (especially volleyball). Gary always kept a positive attitude, even through his suffering and fight with cancer off and on during the past twelve years. He never failed to give God honor and praise for helping him through this difficult time and often shared his faith with those he met and on Facebook. Gary will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Special thanks from the family to Dr. Janice Dickerson, Dr. Douglas Testori, Dr. Charles Neal, Dr. W. Boles and all of their staff and to Lower Cape Fear Hospice for their compassion and care during his illness.
Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2017 Mt. Holly Baptist Church followed by a memorial service at 11am. The Rev. Merrell McKoy will conduct the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, N.C. 28401 or Mt. Holly Baptist Church, 5551 US Hwy 117 N, Burgaw, N.C.

We only knew Gary for a short time but in that time we learned what an inspiration he was. Always positive, hopeful and happy in spite of all the health issues he faced. His spirit shone brightly and will continue to do so in our memories of him.
