William Joseph “Joe” Blanton, age 87, of Wallace left this earthly life for his eternal rest on Wednesday morning, May 3, 2017 from Stonebridge at Woodbury Wellness Center of Hampstead.
He was born October 3, 1929 in Duplin County and was the son of the late John B. and Rosetta Raynor Blanton. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Charlie Blanton, Carroll Blanton, George Blanton and Lummie Blanton; sister, Lessie Mae Batchelor, and son-in-law, Dean Hayes Rivenbark.
Mr. Blanton proudly served his country in the US Army Air Force and was member of First Baptist Church of Wallace.
Surviving is his devoted wife of 67 years, Sarah Lee Gideons Blanton; daughters, Gloria Blanton and JoAnn Blanton Rivenbark, both of Surf City; son, Roy Blanton and wife, Diane of Teachey; five grandchildren, Lisa Gibson and husband, Chris, Deanna Taylor and husband, Kevin, Jason Rivenbark and wife, Jennifer, Jeridith Blanton and wife, Andrea and Darrell Blanton and wife, Amber; eight great grandchildren, Isabelle and Madeline Gibson, Tyler and Brady Blanton, Bodie and Fisher Taylor, Jake and Jenna Rivenbark and numerous nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
Joe was a loving husband and caring father, grandfather and brother. He found great joy in the simplest of things, but his greatest joy was family. He and his wife, Sarah owned and operated Little Farmer's Market in Wallace for numerous years and developed many friendships while there. He was a true American. He loved his country and was very proud of being a United States Veteran. Joe had a great big heart and was a giver who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. With a love for children, he always took time to talk with little children and give them a piece of fruit of some kind. Joe had a rich green thumb and could make anything grow. He especially loved to grow watermelons and vegetables. Joe was the happiest when he was doing simple things like working in his garden, building bird houses and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joe will surely be missed but cherished memories will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
