George Peter Perhala



George Peter Perhala, age 74, of Wilmington passed away after a courageous battle with cancer Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice.

He was born March 19, 1943 in Cleveland, Ohio the son of the late George Perhala and Frances Zima Perhala.

George is survived by his wife, Patsy Lemons Perhala of the home; his children, Eric Perhala Sr. (Maria Ceu Goncalvers and daughter Leah) of Wilmington, NC, Sarah Perhala of San Diego, CA; three grandchildren, Kayla Perhala (Mike), Kelsey Perhala-Hightower (Tellas), and Eric Perhala, Jr. (Sierra); and five great grandchildren. Three step-sons, Aaron Harward and wife Marriann of Boiling Springs, NC, Matthew Harward of Port St. Lucie, FL and Ira Harward of Oak Island , NC; and four step grandchildren, Taylor, Colby, Christin, and Heath Harward. He is also survived by four brothers, Donald Perhala and wife Susan of Myrtle Beach, SC, Dr. Robert Perhala and wife Patti of Avon Lake , OH, Richard Perhala wife Donna of Pittsburgh, PA, Christopher of Dublin, OH, one sister, Phyllis Perhala Lennon of Bloomington, IN and numerous nieces and nephews.

George proudly served in the Navy as a Submariner. He served on the USS Skate and on the USS James K. Polk where he was a plank owner.

He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was active with the Youth Group and Mission Trips and Monday Night feedings, Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinner's for the homeless He was active in Kairos Prison Ministry. He made his Cursillo weekend #57. He was a team member of Via de Cristo. One of his most important ministries was his Thursday Morning Prayer Group with five men he held very dear to his heart, Chuck Dierling, Bob Remillard, Paul Smith, Jim Warren and Mark Zenovia.

He was a past member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church where he was also known for his cooking of Wednesday Luncheons with Jerri Lewis, Thanksgiving meals and sexton " they lost a jewel".

The Celebration of George's life will be held Sunday, May 7, 2017 at 3 pm at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 12 North 6th Street, Wilmington, NC. 28401.
A meal will follow the celebration and everyone is invited to attend and share memories of George!

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Youth Ministry or to Matthew 25 Center, 1196 Penderlea Hwy. Burgaw, NC 28425.
