Helen Dunn Obituary

Helen Susan Miller Dunn, age 95, of Wilmington, NC, passed away peacefully on the 24th day of April 2024.

Helen was born in Boston, Massachusetts to Harold Frank Miller and Mary Susan Harris Miller on October 3, 1928. She is preceded in death by her parents; her twin brother, Harold F. Miller, Jr.; her sister, Janice Miller Freemen; her husband, John E. Dunn, III; and her son, John E. Dunn, IV. Helen is survived by her daughter, Mary Susan Wyche and husband, Kenneth; grandson, Evan Dunn; granddaughters, Rosamond J. Dunn, Jessica Susan Wyche Salvas and husband, Matthew, Kathryn F. Wyche; great granddaughter, Madison Susan Salvas; and great grandson, Caiden James Salvas; sister-in-law, Pru-Ann Miller; as well as many nieces and nephews and their families.

Helen spent her early years in Westchester County, NY attending Rye Country Day School and Rosemary Hall in Greenwich, CT where she was an All American in field hockey. As a young woman, she attended Marjorie Webster Junior College in Washington, DC and served as Class President. Then she relocated to New York City where she graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and became a stage actress performing in Litchfield, CT. Her classmates included John Cassavetes and Anne Bancroft.

Helen met the love of her life, John, in 1950 and was married June 2, 1951. She dedicated the rest of her life to her husband, family and community. Helen & John settled in Barrington, RI where she served as Junior League Director. After relocating to Ruxton, MD in 1963, she worked as a teacher and tennis coach at Park School. Later, after obtaining her Real Estate License, she was appointed Marketing Director for the St. James Condominiums in Baltimore City and authored a weekly column in the local real estate advisor. Helen and John retired to Wilmington, NC in 1994 at the Landfall community where they enjoyed spending time at the beach and playing golf. She became known for her gourmet cooking skills and being the charismatic entertainer, but most of all, she loved her family.
